Technical stuff: Unlike a swimming pool one cannot use chlorine to keep the water clean and free from algae. One also has to consider the problem of byproducts of the fish which in time will kill the fish if not handled properly. So the solution is to pass the raw water through a UV-C light which kills the algae cells and other bacteria. This water is then passed through a Sand filter where the debris and killed algae is screened off. The water is then passes through a Biological filter. The biological filter breeds good bacteria which converts the fish byproducts into stuff which is good for the Fish. The water is then recirculated into the pool using a suitable method to aerate the water.

Combined with a customized electronic circuit the fish pond goes smart and does the filtration, recirculation and light control by itself. The system has a function to backwash the sand filter using water and a lot of air.
